The advent of Del Mar and its rise to one of the most beautiful coastal towns of San Diego is rich in its storyline. In 1880, a railroad engineer, Theodore Loop travelled on the newly laid tracks from San Diego to San Bernardino. He came across Del Mar and described it “as one of the most attractive places on the entire coast” and promptly built his house there. On his persuasion, his friend Colonel Taylor, also known as the founder of Del Mar, bought 338 acres of land from it’s owner for $1000 and thus was born the city of Del Mar. Taylor was a visionary who wanted to build Del Mar as a seaside resort for the affluent and thus invested in building its foundations. Over the years Del Mar homes, are known for being vacation destinations of choice for many. With its well-preserved charming shops, restaurants preserved immaculately over years, Del Mar attracts hundreds of tourists each year for its charm and splendor. Del Mar is home to the Del Mar Race Track, a world-class thoroughbred racing destination for the country’s top talent, started in 1937 by the famous actor Bing Crosby. The racing season in the summer and fall sees a combination of fashion, racing and celebrities bring alive one of the most revered racing destinations. Sharing the same address as the Del Mar Race Track lies the Del Mar Fairgrounds the annual destination of the San Diego County fair and multiple other events.
