About Poway
The city of Poway, established in 1980, is among the larger cities in the San Diego County. The city’s history outlines Poway as being a key farming and agriculture destination growing multiple grains, vegetables besides having immaculate dairy farms. Wells and rainwater were a strong requirement for these farms and the gradually increasing drought strongly affected these occupations over the years. It is believed that the city derived its name from the word “Paguay” in the ancient Indian language and means “little valley” or “meeting of the valley” Remnants of the history can be viewed in the old Poway Village a line of quaint stores, shops and galleries reflecting Poway’s country living charm. History also comes alive at the narrow-gauge railroad in Old Poway Park, which carries passengers aboard vintage railroad transport even today.
Life in Poway
Today, Poway is a large efficient well-planned city. Poway residents enjoy hikes along its rugged terrain alternating between the beautiful sandy mountains and the green hills. Mount Woodson and Iron Mountain are some of the popular trails in Poway. Perched on the Mt. Woodson trail is the Potato Chip rock a narrow precariously perched rock marvel photographed much by locals. Lake Poway is a large serene lake nestled among the hills of Poway. It is a popular venue for boating and fishing besides having scenic green areas with picnic tables. The Blue Sky ecological reserve in Poway is a 700 acre reserve lined with majestic oaks. The reserve is key to preserving several plant and animal species within the area. The Poway Unified School district serves homeowners and their families in Poway with its efficient and innovative schools. The school district is recognized for the exemplary performance of students and high standards. Many a homebuyers purchase homes in Poway to have their children attend the well-maintained schools of the district.
