The City of Lemon Grove acquired its name after its success in lemon and orange crops in the early 1900s. Orange and lemon growing was a key agriculture and business source for the city. With its many orchards Lemon Grove was described as one of the prettiest cities in the county. Incorporated as a city in 1977 it is one of the smallest cities in San Diego. A large symbolic lemon has been its symbol since many years and is cherished by residents. There is a 10 feet structure with the lemon demonstrated at a prime location in the city, adjacent to which is a lemon orchard symbolic of its historic past. In the 1900s, Lemon Grove provided a base for prominent Baja California heritage families to establish business, homes and a community in Lemon Grove.
