About Santee
Santee lies in the eastern region of the San Diego County and is surrounded by vast expanses of mountains and greens. The beautiful San Diego River runs through Santee and creates a green belt of parks, reserves and natural habitat for residents to cherish and enjoy. The river originates in the Cuyamaca Mountains in Julian and finally meets the Pacific Ocean near Mission Bay. The original residents of Santee were Kumeyaay Indians who established a village on the banks of the San Diego River. Santee is names after Milton Santee, second husband of the lady Jennie Blodgett. Her first husband was George Cowles a prominent ranching pioneer in San Diego, Santee was at one time also known as Cowles town.

With its expansive topography, on the western side of Santee lies the Cowles Mountain. This natural landmark, which is the highest point in the city of San Diego, offers sweeping views of the county and is a popular hiking destination. Santee also boasts of a state of the art sports facility called Sportsplex USA. Sportsplex is a premier sports facility of 20 acres. It hosts over 350,000 people annually with softball, baseball and soccer sports leagues and tournaments. One of the other charming features residents of Santee enjoy is the drive in theater with movie nights and popcorn. Families love to enjoy the drive in theater ambiance at their convenience. Santee is well connected to the coastline with the Inter state 52, a six-lane freeway. It has been cited as one of the prominent cities with potential for future growth and expansion in the San Diego County. The Grossmont Union High School District and the Santee School District serve the City.
